Dr. Mark Handlin

Veterinarian/Owner of Heartland Veterinary Clinic

I grew up on a family farm in the Kanopolis Lake area.  My wife, Cathy, and I have two children, Mandi and Aaron. Aaron graduated from McPherson High School and is now on the road working as a welder. Mandi graduated from Washburn University School of Nursing. She is enjoying her new job at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Our family pets consist of three dogs, Tater, Lily, and Remi; two horses, and a small herd of hereford cows.

Exam Room Technician

Kyla lives in McPherson. She has 2 dogs, Maizey and Juni, and 1 cat, Kenny. In her spare time she enjoys the lake, taking her dogs on walks, and being with her family and friends.

​Abby Hagemann

Practice Manager/Surgical Technician

Abby has lived in McPherson her whole life. She is married to Jared and has two daughters, Kyla and Haely. They have 4 dogs, Bodey, Wally, Beni, and Jett and 3 cats, Millie, Squeaks, and Rosie. In her spare time she enjoys being with family and friends, reading books, and taking care of her many house plants. A lot of her time is also spent following her girls around.

Graedon Green

Kennel & Facility Manager

Graedon lives in McPherson with his dog, Diesel. He graduated from McPherson College for graphic design in 2023. He loves to listen to music and draw in his free time.

Jhaidyn Brown

Veterinary Assistant

Jhaidyn lives in McPherson with her parents, dog, Duke, and many chickens. She is currently attending Hutchinson Community College. In her free time she enjoys going to the lake and hanging with friends and family.

Ryland Hawkinson

Lead Receptionist

Ryland lives in Mcpherson. She has a dog named Trout. In her spare time she enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and hanging out in the sunshine.

Sammy Johnson

Lead Kennel Attendant

Sammy lives in McPherson with her dad, younger brother, and many pets. She graduated from McPherson High School in 2024. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family, friends and her pets, specifically her dog Neko. She is also currently attending Hutchinson Community College and applying to K-State to become a Veterinarian.

Taylor Johnson

Kennel Attendant

Taylor lives in McPherson with his dad, older sister, and many pets. He is a Junior at McPherson High School. In his free time he enjoys going on motorcycle rides, hanging out with friends, working out and playing the piano.

Kynedi Huggard

Kennel Attendant

Kynedi lives in McPherson with her parents, brother, and dog, Remi. She is currently a Junior in highschool. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family. Kynedi plays softball for McPherson High School and Tulsa Elite.

Dr. Watson

Clinic Cat. Dr. Watson arrived at the clinic in May of 2016. He came in as an injured stray and somehow became the clinic cat. His hobbies include: hunting flies, faking injuries for attention, stealing highlighters, opening bags of dog food, jumping over the reception desk like a ninja, taking naps, annoying the staff dogs, and really just being an overall nuisance. Dr. Watson has been a great addition to the staff.
